Pharmacy First at Egerton Pharmacy
The Pharmacy First service builds on the NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service, which has been running since October 2019. This earlier service allowed patients to be referred to a community pharmacy for support with minor illnesses or for urgent repeat medication supplies.
Since 31 January 2024, the expanded Pharmacy First service now allows pharmacies such as Egerton Pharmacy to provide consultations and treatment for a number of common health conditions through established clinical pathways. This means patients can receive advice and, where appropriate, prescription-only medicines directly from a pharmacist without needing to see a GP first.
Conditions Treated Through Pharmacy First
Pharmacists at Egerton Pharmacy can assess and treat the following conditions through the Pharmacy First service:

Acute otitis media (ear infection)1 to 17 years
Impetigo 1 year and over
Infected insect bites 1 year and over
Shingles 18 years and over
Sinusitis 12 years and over
Sore throat 5 years and over
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections Women aged 16–64
Patients can access these services in several ways. They may be referred by their GP surgery, NHS 111, or urgent care services. Alternatively, for these seven conditions, patients can simply visit or contact Egerton Pharmacy directly without needing a referral.
